Over the past couple of years, I have done several podcasts; Six, to be exact. Wait, I think it might be seven. I dunno, its been a bunch. I have some of them linked on this site but not all of them. Mostly because I am lazy but there were one or two that I was just not pleased with and should never find the light of day.
My first one was with Dave Markel, host of Sexual Assault Survivor Stories, where Dave allows the guest to really just share their story in a authentic manner. Since it was my first one, I felt like I stumbled over my words and garbled up a bunch of stuff. But Dave is a master editor and he made me sound like I was an old pro. But it was the beginning of me clarifying my message, which is not an easy thing to do when you are passionate about something. You can check it out here.
Stick a microphone in front of me, or even just ask me why I am doing this stuff and I will not shut up. I want parents to identify grooming behavior before its too late. I want survivors to know its not their fault. I want parents to not let the guilt and shame prevent them from supporting their child. I want every survivor to have a voice and be heard. And I want the world to know about the piece of shit that hurt my daughter and never get comfortable under the rock he lives.
But I can't really do all of that justice in 60 minutes. Well, or a couple of hours. In fact, just pull up a chair, this is gonna take awhile...
Anyway, I have another podcast that just dropped this week. Jill Quist of Voice Lessons invited me on her show to talk about my advocacy but also to discuss...wait for it...the book that I am writing. Yep, I am working on a book because I have a ton of stuff that I need to say and podcasters frown of six hour shows. Jill was so great to work with and she did a great job of keeping me on track. Anyway, I feel like I have gotten so much better at sharing my family's story in a more concise manner so I would encourage you to check it out by clicking on the link below.
And to quote my dear friend, Mary Simmerling, I have some things to say, so get ready for 200 some pages of all of the stuff I need to say. Because someone needs to say it and I am just foolish enough to say it.
