Sometimes, life throws something really terrible in your path, allowing you to make a decision; either let the obstacle consume you with despair and prevent you from moving forward or use it as fire to make a change.
When a trusted member of law enforcement betrayed my family and hurt my daughter, I was devastated. But I refused to allow him to have the final say. And I refused to let another family have to watch a predator be found guilt of hurting a loved one and then watch him walk out of the courtroom as a free man.
I am proud to share that on 6/25/25, the PA Senate approved HB355 UNANIMOUSLY, sending it to the Governor’s desk for signing into law. This has been the toughest thing I have ever done but also the most gratifying. This law will not help my family but knowing that we used something horrific to help other families that will find themselves in a similar situation provided us with tremendous closure.
When I set out to change the law that allowed this monster to walk free, I had no idea what I was doing or what I was up against. The process is long and difficult and at times, quite discouraging.
But so is doing nothing.

As John Lewis once said, "Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
We are all capable of making a difference. And while I wish that I was not part of this club of parents of sexual assault survivors, here I am, and I am not going to allow another child or parent feel alone. Speak up, don’t stay on the sidelines because you aren’t sure what to do. Go find some good trouble and make a difference. You don’t have to change a law to make a difference, just start by speaking up.
